About Navotas

Navotas is a city that’s located in the northern part of Metro Manila. This city is mostly termed as the “Fishing Capital of the Philippines” because 70% of the residents’ livelihood here is sourced from the Manila Bay, which is on the western part of the city. Aside from the coined name, Navotas City is also well-known for its unique sauces – the fish sauce and shrimp paste or patis at bagoong in Filipino language.

Although Navotas is the city’s official name, it went through a lot of name-changing phases before people came up with the name Navotas. There was a legend that tells that once there was a strip of land that connects to Tondo, Manila (a district) and Navotas. However, the sea had consumed this piece of land until the time comes that an opening was created. The geographical alteration gave the land a name “nayon ng butas” which means a pierced province or community. Later on, the name was shortened and it became “nabutas” which means pierced through. Then the word evolved to Navotas which is the present name of the city.

The city is politically and geographically divided by 2 districts and 14 barangays. The first district consists of nine barangays namely: Bagumbayan North, Bagumbayan South, Bangkulasi, Navotas East, Navotas West, Northbay Boulevard (North), Northbay Boulevard (South), San Rafael Village and Sipac-Almacen. While the second district only consists of five barangays which are: Daanghari, San Jose, san Roque, Tangos and Tanza. The nearest places in Navotas city are Obando, Bulacan (North), Malabon (East), Metro Manila (South) and Manila Bay (West).

As for the public servicing establishments like hospitals, Navotas City has two medical centers namely the St. Joseph Maternity and Medical Clinic and the Navotas Emergency & Lying in Clinic. Although the city has only medical centers that provide assistance on general health problems, Navotas put up various health centers to provide the basid medical care that the residents need.
